Verba volant, scripta manent!
Spoken words fly away, written words remain !
The Adligat Society is an affiliation of philanthropists and bibliophiles, conspiring not only to make a contribution to the present, but also to make a difference for generations to come. We are a non-governmental, non-profit organisation, geared towards the promotion of Serbian culture, art, and international cooperation.
We are a group of book lovers and knowledge seekers, in love with our country and the world beyond. We would like to extend a warm invitation for like-minded people, from all over the world, to come and join us!
Our ‘Society for Culture, Art and International Cooperation (ADLIGAT)’ revolves around the Lazic Library, which was officially founded in 1882, and has survived nine generations to date.
The name ‘Adligat’ is a professional term describing a series of individual books bound together by the same cover. In this case, it not only applies to a series of books, but also to a collection of cultures, countries and nations gathered together under one roof, in one institution.
In addition to the Library, the society has also established the Book and Travel Museum and the Museum of Serbian Literature. We are planning to open the Museum dedicated to the Novi Sad raid in Novi Sad.
Currently, we have more than one million bibliographic units, of which many thousands are considered rarities.
We are building a potent cultural institution, based in Belgrade, which will serve as a linchpin for Serbian culture.
